An engine gearbox housing is a complex aluminum die casting because it connects mechanical alignment, oil containment and machined assembly interfaces in one part. Buyers should not evaluate this type of housing only by external appearance. The important questions are which datum controls machining, which cavities must stay clean, and which sealing or mounting faces must be protected after CNC machining.

The datum for an engine gearbox housing should follow the real assembly logic. If the supplier uses a convenient rough casting surface for CNC setup, the machined bores, mounting pads and sealing faces may not align correctly with the engine or gearbox assembly. Buyers should mark the primary datum, secondary datum and critical relationship dimensions on the 2D drawing.
For housings with several machined interfaces, the supplier should explain the machining sequence. This helps avoid a situation where one face is accurate by itself but not related correctly to another face.

Oil-related cavities require more attention than ordinary structural pockets. Loose burrs, machining chips, blasting residue or coating particles can create downstream failures. If the housing is used near lubrication or transmission oil, the RFQ should state the cleaning requirement, inspection method and whether ports need caps after cleaning.

Send the 3D model, marked 2D drawing, datum scheme, oil cavity cleaning requirement, sealing face notes, bearing or shaft fit requirement, surface treatment and annual quantity. If a housing must pass assembly or leak testing, include the test condition at the quotation stage.
